Wish List for Afghan Refugee Families
The exit of the United States military from Afghanistan may be fading from the headlines, but the needs of the Afghan families who were evacuated to our country continue to be urgent. Fort Pickett in VA is one of four military bases around the country providing temporary shelter to thousands of Afghan families while they await processing as refugees. The families are lacking clothing, toiletries, shoes, diapers, strollers, toys, and sometimes even blankets.
While many donated items have been given to resettlement agencies – all wonderful and encouraged – most people aren’t sure how to help with the immediate needs on the military bases around the country. Team Rubicon, a non-profit service organization of military veterans that helps people recover from disasters and humanitarian crises, is working with the Defense Department to coordinate donations for Afghan families at the military bases.
They have created an Amazon Wish List for each base. Please consider contributing items that will directly benefit Afghan refugees in the DMV. If you purchase through
Amazon Smile, listing TPC as the beneficiary, you’ll make an even greater contribution!!
