The violence of poverty is both global and local. The Maryland Food Bank estimates that one in every nine Marylanders (including one in six kids) suffer from food insecurity.  Food insecurity causes more than just hunger pains.  It can lead to ongoing malnourishment, struggles in school due to an inability to concentrate, and social stigma.  At TPC, we know we can and must do something about it.

One of TPC's Signature Missions is to provide a nourishing warm meal to the food-insecure of our community every single Sunday. This special ministry entails the hearts and hands of over 130 people who are committed to cooking and serving weekly, as well as providing casseroles to be stored in our church freezer.

  • Lunch is served from 12:00—1:00 PM in Thompson Hall. Ten teams of eight or more take turns each week. The team determines the menu for the day which has included casseroles, chili, and turkey and ham roasts.  Along with a main dish, team members provide salad, milk, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for guests to take with them.  A vegetarian entrée is also provided.  SCL Teams are intergenerational and often include gifted members who entertain all with piano or guitar music or play a great game of chess.
  • While serving lunch is an integral part of SCL, just as important is the sense of community we are trying to build. After serving lunch to our guests, SCL teams make a plate for themselves and sit with our guests for conversation and to build a relationship.
